Oldham and Saddleworth Bus Service Changes, January 2014: People Power Prevails

Frequencies restored and upgraded on key First Greater Manchester routes.

  • Upgraded Sunday and Evening journeys on 180 and 184 services;
  • Half hourly frequency restored on 180 service.

The 184 will see an increase in mid-evening and Sunday journeys. Following three consultation events, the 180 will see its daytime half hourly frequency restored. Seen here is SN12 AEX, an Enviro400 double decker about to depart for Huddersfield.

People power is behind most of First Greater Manchester’s latest service changes. Last October, the daytime service of the 180 from Manchester to Greenfield [Clarence Hotel] was cut from half hourly to once hourly. The start of this week saw George Osborne stating that the Welfare State as we know it today is ‘unaffordable’. Contrary to his statement in The Daily Telegraph, the cheque book is well and truly open for the Corporate Welfare State. This was proven today as non-renewable energy companies were given tax breaks, along with a further £1billion worth of public sector cuts per annum. 29th December 2013: Spent the best part of last week tidying up the loft. Found a strange brown contraption next to a little used Scalextric set, a few paintings, and about forty-five editions of Go Go County next a City programme signed by Paul Power, Alex Williams and Tommy Caton.
