Silk Brass: Sunday Brass at the Boarshurst Band Club (11 June 2023)

Wyatt and Co. on form again with highly entertaining concert

How do Silk Brass do it? How do they give their audience a mix of the familiar with a few surprises without peppering their programme with highbrow pieces? Tony Wyatt’s approach to programme sequencing never fails to win audience members, and their latest concert was no exception.

Silk Brass: Sunday Brass at the Boarshurst Band Club (03 July 2022)

Stylish show makes for memorable night of music

Consistency runs through Silk Brass like ‘Blackpool’ does with a stick of rock. At each concert, Tony Wyatt and Co give their audience a merry dance, with a lively programme of classics and future classics. Last Sunday’s concert was no exception, as we had a welcome mix of music from 19th to 21st centuries.

Roberts Bakery Band: Sunday Brass at the Boarshurst Band Club, 15 December 2019

A tasty programme by Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s band

A baker’s dozen of pieces made for a most entertaining concert for Roberts Bakery Band. With all but one piece being Christmas themed, there was everything in the Cheshire band’s festive hamper to suit all tastes. For Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s band, this was the band’s final concert of 2019.

Silk Brass: Sunday Brass at the Boarshurst Band Club (15 September 2019)

Another warm reception and enjoyable night from Tony Wyatt and Co.

For some brass bands, the middle of September means the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain finals in Cheltenham. Last weekend’s National Finals saw great success for Boarshurst Silver Band (3rd in the First Section final) and the Uppermill Band (Third Section title winners). After six hours and forty minutes on a coach to and from Cheltenham, and seeing several bands at The Centaur, seeing another band would have made you a glutton for punishment.

Whether you took the M5 motorway to Gloucestershire and/or the 350 bus to Greenfield, Silk Brass gave us all a superb concert. A neatly balanced, highly entertaining programme with four memorable solos. After hearing Philip Sparke’s Endeavour up to sixteen times (or Stephen Bulla’s Beecher Variations earlier) there was nothing too heavy going. Light, yet meaty. A perfect concert for anyone who wanted something light-hearted with real substance.

Silk Brass: Sunday Brass at the Boarshurst Band Club, 23 September 2018

Tony Wyatt and Co deliver another astounding concert

With only a week to go till they enter the Bolsover Entertainment Contest, Silk Brass gave us all another great show. As with last year’s concert (exactly a year to the day at the time of writing), another well-bodied programme. Though lighter than last year’s concert, it wasn’t lightweight to a point where the audience’s intelligence was insulted.

Three Peaks for a Grand: Cheshire Climb Creates Windfall for Francis House

Stagecoach Manchester employees scale new heights in Macclesfield beauty spot

Rather you than me, and I can speak from experience having done Tegg's Nose in (seemingly always) inclement weather.
Rather you than me; I can speak from experience having done Tegg’s Nose in (seemingly always) inclement weather, at the age of eight.
