Stagecoach Canteen Changes Sees Surplus Food Sent to Food Banks

Why Stagecoach Greater Manchester donated supplies to five food banks in the city region

Stagecoach driver Joanne Morgan unloads food donations from the bus to the food bank at United Estates of Wythenshawe.

There is a famous episode of On The Buses* when Luxton and District decide to change the canteen facilities. After a few complaints about the food portions and Messrs Butler and Co. wanting a bit more than two pork sausages, the canteen staff are replaced by a wall of vending machines. Thankfully, this didn’t happen with Stagecoach Greater Manchester, after a change of canteen supplier. Their changes left the canteens of our city region’s leading bus operator with an abundance of baked beans, a bounty of bread, and a cornucopia of coffee granules. Not to mention a multitude of meat pies.

How a fundraising concert for the British Heart Foundation ended Boarshurst Band Club’s 2019 season in style

Tameside’s Autism Hour, 05 – 12 October 2019: Ashton Review of Shops Extra

Which Tameside shops are taking part in the National Autistic Society’s Autism Hour?

If you have an autism spectrum condition, a trip to the shops can be a daunting prospect. One issue could be the bright lights, another could be the background noise. In a supermarket, even the sheer variety of items can be overloading.

As for the queues and the crowds, say no more… This eejit in his formative years used to squeal his way through department stores. Shoppers thought I was being mistreated when it was the bustle of John Moores’ most famous retail concern that drove me nuts. The background noise in Ashton’s Pound Bakery is enough to put me off from being a regular customer (the one in Hyde isn’t as bad for that).

Stagecoach Manchester marks ten years of fundraising with the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital charity

You could say that the book and the service bus were made for each other. Some operators have a library on their services where a small selection of books can be borrowed from a luggage hold. Before on-board WiFi became the rule, there was nothing better than a good book on the 219 out of work. Or your favourite newspaper. Some schools have acquired old buses for their own libraries.

Friends of Music For Youth Brass Band, Boarshurst Band Club, 30 December 2018

How the Friends of Music For Youth Brass finished 2018’s programme of Sunday Brass concerts in great style at the Boarshurst Band Club

Question: how do you end a phenomenal season of concerts at a band club in a southern part of Saddleworth? The answer is simple: pick the finest brass band players, create a one-off scratch band, then add a charity of your choosing. Then stir a live audience into rapture for the best part of two hours. Serve with meaty compositions and a generous serving of locally sourced cask conditioned ales. In a nutshell, all the ingredients of a truly memorable concert.
