Stalybridge’s Whit Walks, 09 June 2019

Predictably, Stalybridge’s Whit Walks were affected by the grey weather with most of the showers coming at 2pm. Though higher than Dukinfield’s turnout, there were still fewer onlookers compared with last year. Needless to say, the changeable weather might have put a few people off.

Dukinfield’s Whit Walks, 09 June 2019

On the 09 June, some of Dukinfield’s churches upheld the tradition of Whit Walking. With June often regarded as a warm month, the weather that Sunday was changeable. At 10am, the blue skies promised some decent weather. By 11am, they turned into a dingy grey.

Music from the Big Screen: Boarshurst Silver Band’s Blockbusting Summer Concert

An Oscar-winning performance with an excellent mix of visuals, sumptuous whole band performances and great singing

The first Sunday in July has established itself in the brass banding calendar for two important dates. One of them is the Brighouse Hymn and March Contest won by Milnrow Band this year. Stalybridge’s Whit Walks, 20 May 2018

Dukinfield’s Whit Walks, 20 May 2018

This year’s Whit Walkers were treated to some superb weather in Dukinfield’s Procession of Witness. A Sunday Brass Christmas: Boarshurst Silver Band’s 2017 Christmas Concert

More silliness, sublime music, and a time for giving

From Denshaw to Friezland, the Saddleworthian Christmas spirit is alive and well. Especially at its band clubs from Delph to Boarshurst. As always, the Boarshurst Silver Band concert never fails to disappoint. The programme is, as you would expect, more Christmassy but always different. This time, the second half was taken by the Boarshurst Silver Theatre Workshop’s pantomime.

Music from the Big Stage: Boarshurst Silver Band’s Broadway Spectacular

Showstopping performance made for a memorable night

The 02 July finished with a most memorable concert from Boarshurst Silver Band. Repeating the success of last year’s Hollywood themed summer concert, it was another multimedia experience. Coupled with a virtuoso performance from the band, the visuals worked to great effect. There was also three stunning songs, from the voice of Georgina Hulme. Oh, and this fellow, your reviewer, was the Master of Ceremonies. Fresh from the Brighouse Hymn and March Contest.

A Sunday Brass Christmas: Boarshurst Silver Band’s Cracking Concert

An illuminating Christmas concert with a dose of silliness and the usual festive thrills

Throughout Saddleworth, the last Sunday night before Christmas sees each of the village bands put on their Christmas. Whether they have any outstanding engagements or not during the yuletide period, it is a chance to let their hair down. The programme is, as you would expect, more Christmassy. It is also an excuse to wear Christmas jumpers instead of the usual brass band uniforms.

Sunday Brass Goes To The Movies: Boarshurst Silver Band’s Blockbuster

Music from Stage and Screen concert the hottest ticket in Saddleworth

Forget the dismal Grease special shown the previous night to the concert. The Boarshurst faithful spent a summer night at the most august of institutions (where else but the Boarshurst Band Club?). The cause? Boarshurst Silver Band’s trip to Cheltenham for the National Finals on the second Saturday in September. A worthy one indeed.
