Clipper ticket resurrects spirit of the Clippercard on Metrolink trams

The Clippercard is dead… long live the Clippercard! Well, that’s how we may have reported on the self-cancelling ticket’s demise if East of the M60 was around in 2004. Years after the original ticket’s demise, Greater Manchester Transport’s ten-trips-for-the-price-of-nine tickets still carry fond memories. You might have travelled with a Clippercard by fair means (with a black plastic wallet) or foul (by boarding and passing the card on to your friend).

Superb programme marks a brass band on the up

The halfway point of what is one of the UK’s hottest months was marked with weather more akin to an early March. As usual, the warmest of receptions this Sunday was reserved for another brass band at The Mecca of Brass Banding. This time with Flixton Band – the highest ranking brass band within Trafford MBC boundaries. Throughout the best part of two hours and twenty minutes, they proved their worth in a highly entertaining concert.

Stage, Screen, and Tradition Reigns Supreme

No-one would believe that in the space of two hours, we would have been treated to yet another fine concert at the Boarshurst Band Club. This time, it was the turn of the highest ranking brass band in Trafford MBC boundaries. Standing comfortably in Section Two, Flixton Band, gave us a varied programme with traditional pieces, plus a few from stage and screen. For the price of a bog-standard lager, the Boarshurst faithful were treated to a magnificent seventeen pieces including encore.

Autumn concert season opens with a bang (and Besses offered a lot for your buck)

Boarshurst Band Club’s autumn season began in fantastic style on the 04 September where Besses O’Th’ Barn Band captivated audiences for the best part of two hours. The Section Three – soon-to-be Section Two – brass band offered a traditional and accomplished programme. For the price of a pint of lager and the quality of their performance, Sunday’s concert was a real snip.

Besses Boys Band: Sunday Brass at the Boarshurst Band Club

Let’s Hear It For the (Besses) Boys

Last night [24 April], Besses Boys Band gave the Boarshurst faithful a fabulous concert. The band, formed in 1943 to save the senior band from a possible demise, have come from strength to strength. This year saw a sensational start, with the Lancashire band picking up the Second Section title at the Butlins Mineworkers’ Contest in Skegness, Lincolnshire. The Second Section test piece this January gone, was Fire in the Blood by the excellent Paul Lovatt-Cooper.
