In times of tragedy, it is music that matters. It can soothe the savage beast and make us happy for the best part of two minutes or two hours. With the Coronavirus situation, it has meant the cancellation of various concerts and music festivals. Even Whit Friday, The Greatest Free Show on Earth – has been postponed till next year.

Another superb concert from Paul Towle and Co.

Was it really thirteen months ago since Paul Towle made his début as Musical Director for St. John’s Band (Mossley)? During his first visit as M.D., the Roughtown band were drafted in at short notice to replace Stalybridge Old Band. Last October’s concert was a cracking one. Could he do it again in late November?

A memorable night for St. John’s – and a glorious début as MD for Paul Towle

If Carlsberg did emergency planning for brass band concerts, they would have hired the services of Boarshurst Silver Band’s concert secretary. For the second time this year, Boarshurst Band Club have drafted in a fantastic replacement band at short notice. This time, in place of Stalybridge Old Band, St. John’s Mossley Band.

St. John’s Mossley Band: Sunday Brass at the Boarshurst Band Club

A friendly way with our fellow neighbours from Roughtown

Mossley is a wonderful place of contrasts set along the Pennine foothills. It is one where the Yorkstone of Roughtown and Upper Mossley coexists with the red brick of Micklehurst and Hey Farm estates. For its 10,000 people there are three brass bands. The oldest, Mossley Band, rehearse at 3 Argyle Street in Upper Mossley. Making their way to Boarshurst Band Club on Sunday [06 March] was the town’s second oldest brass band.
