In Vision: The Ultimate Sunday Brass Night at Boarshurst Band Club

A Greatest Hits compilation of the best performances

In times of tragedy, it is music that matters. It can soothe the savage beast and make us happy for the best part of two minutes or two hours. With the Coronavirus situation, it has meant the cancellation of various concerts and music festivals. Even Whit Friday, The Greatest Free Show on Earth – has been postponed till next year.

With only days to go till the North West Regional Championships, 78 bands across the region treated live audiences and adjudicators to a sneak preview of their test piece. Milnrow Band: Sunday Brass at the Boarshurst Band Club, 12 May 2019

Another great night of brass band music with Dennis Hadfield and Co.

With the Spring Festival in Blackpool less than a week away, Milnrow Band gave us a great curtain raiser to their appearance in the Winter Gardens. This was a concert with talent by the bucketload: not only in terms of musicality, but also in term of musical arrangement.

Milnrow Band: Sunday Brass at the Boarshurst Band Club

Another great night, with a little help from Count Basie, Herb Alpert and Duke Ellington

Regular readers would be wondering why Count Basie and Duke Ellington would be featuring anywhere near this week’s Sunday Brass review. Unlike most concerts at the Boarshurst Band Club, our fellows a short distance from Rochdale turned to jazz and swing influences for last night’s [17 July] programme. In front of an excellent turnout at the Boarshurst Band Club, Milnrow Band took an experimental approach – and succeeded.
