With the Coronavirus situation, it has meant the cancellation of various concerts and music festivals. Even Whit Friday, The Greatest Free Show on Earth – has been postponed till next year.

Marsden Silver Prize Band, 10 February: Sunday Brass at the Boarshurst Band Club

Andrew Lofthouse and Co. takes the audience on a journey through stage and screen

Royal Albert Hall, London, 7pm: the red carpet is rolled out for another star-studded BAFTA awards ceremony. All the greats from stage and screen pull into the palatial venue, used as the Championship Section’s National Finals venue each October.

Boarshurst Band Club, Greenfield, 7pm: Linda and Vernon opens up Boarshurst Band Club for another night of first class brass band music. This time with a hardy following of brass band lovers from Marsden, Saddleworth and surrounding area. Some from far flung parts of the world like Hyde.

With a fortnight to go till the North West Regional Championship Finals, Marsden Silver Prize Band’s latest Boarshurst jolly offered some light relief from the strains of Ray Steadman-Allen’s Seascapes. From the start, Andrew Lofthouse’s band gave us a tour through the world of stage and screen.

Superb concert with varied programme, and a tribute to a legendary composer

As with last May’s concert, Alan Widdop’s Marsden Silver Prize Band gave us another wonderful night of brass band music. With the 74th anniversary of D-Day and Armed Forces Day falling this month, there was a slightly patriotic air to last night’s concert. There was a good mix of traditional pieces, ‘Yellow Music’, and popular works. In all, a most enjoyable two hours and ten minutes in a concert with ‘entertainment’ set to 512pt Helvetica Bold.

Marsden Silver Prize Band: Sunday Brass at Boarshurst Band Club

May Marsden date delivers a strong and stable concert

Boarshurst Band Club’s first concert of May 2017 was well and truly one to remember. It was an enjoyable programme that was testing and entertaining in equal measure for the band. With the return of Alan Widdop, Marsden Silver Band are returning to the Championship section. Going off last night’s concert, they could be in the top flight for a lengthy stint.
