Well, the wait is over. Today at 6pm, the Northern Premier League has announced its fixtures for the 2019 – 2020 season. This season will also see two significant developments for the 51-year-old league. First is the creation of a North West Division and a South East Division. The second one is a change of sponsor: this time as the BetVictor Northern Premier. A change from being sponsored by adhesive products.

Some 150 miles north, another club nicknamed the Tigers enjoyed better luck, beating Boston United 4-1. By the time I got back to my coach, it was confirmed that Cheshire’s big cats had won the Conference North [Blue Square Bet North] title in front of a four figure attendance (but not the 136 as erroneously stated on BBCi that evening). And deservedly so.

So far, this year’s F.A. Cup campaign has been a fruitless one for our sides east of the M60 motorway. This has been punctuated by immediate exits for Glossop North End, Mossley and Stalybridge Celtic. So far, Tameside’s hopes of F.A. Cup success depends on Droylsden. By Monday, we shall find out who Droylsden and Stockport County will be facing in the next round.

East of the M60 motorway, only one of our teams are in the hat for the Third Qualifying Round draw (with another just inside the M60). Both of which are in the Blue Square Bet North, one of which has enjoyed a good run in the league, with the other one stuttering a little.
