Tameside’s and Glossop’s Northern Premier League 2019 – 20 Fixtures

Ashton United welcome newly promoted Atherton Collieries whilst Mossley and Stalybridge Celtic travel away

Well, the wait is over. Today at 6pm, the Northern Premier League has announced its fixtures for the 2019 – 2020 season. This season will also see two significant developments for the 51-year-old league. First is the creation of a North West Division and a South East Division. The second one is a change of sponsor: this time as the BetVictor Northern Premier. A change from being sponsored by adhesive products.

Tameside F.C.? No Way, Pedro!

Why a combined borough-wide team may hinder rather than help

Tameside: a product of the 1972 Local Government Act comprising of 210,000 residents, parts of three historical counties, and six senior level football teams with rivalries of their own. Devotees of the semi-professional game are spoilt for choice in the borough. Besides Stalybridge Celtic, Hyde FC, Droylsden, Ashton United, Curzon Ashton and Mossley A.F.C, there is a further two clubs taking temporary residence. Continue reading “Tameside F.C.? Countdown to Agony or Ecstasy: 21 Days Set to Shake Tameside Non League Football

A preview of the final three weeks of the 2013-14 football season

At around about this time last August, we were bracing ourselves for what would hopefully be a good season for all clubs in the Tameside area, and Glossop North End. At this time of writing, we are now three weeks away from its completion, that very point of the season which is often known as ‘the business end’. Moments Which Shook Tameside and Glossop Non-League Football: The Not So Perfect Ten

Ten seminal moments of non-league footballing greatness in the Tameside and Glossop areas

With the season less than ten matches from completion, this would often be the time for Player of the Year, PFA Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Player of the Year awards. This would also be a time to reflect upon the last three-quarters of the footballing season, maybe the odd past glory or two. It Pains Me to Says This, But Well Done to Hyde FC

Joy for Tigers as Hyde FC become third Tameside club to reach non-league’s top flight

Whaddon Road Ground, Cheltenham, 1655 hours yesterday: the Mighty Stalybridge Celtic were fresh from beating Gloucestershire’s Tigers [Gloucester City] 2-1. Some 150 miles north, another club nicknamed the Tigers enjoyed better luck, beating Boston United 4-1. By the time I got back to my coach, it was confirmed that Cheshire’s big cats had won the Conference North [Blue Square Bet North] title in front of a four figure attendance (but not the 136 as erroneously stated on BBCi that evening). And deservedly so. Continue reading “It Pains Me to Says This, But Well Done to Hyde FC”

East of the M60’s Road to Wembley: Fourth Qualifying Round Results

Droylsden’s dream put on hold but surprise win for Nantwich Town

As of the 17 October 2011, an all Blue Square Bet North tie still separates Dave Pace from the First Round Proper. Droylsden drew 0 – 0 against Blyth Spartans, granting them a replay. For Pacey, a trip to Blyth on a windy Tuesday night was the last thing he wanted, given that their next fixture is none other than Stalybridge Celtic at home.

East of the M60’s Road to Wembley: Fourth Qualifying Round Draw

Could Droylsden make it to the First Round Proper for the third time running?

An all Blue Square Bet North tie separates Dave Pace from the First Round Proper. Droylsden are drawn at home to Blyth Spartans. Like Ashington and Hebburn Town, the Spartans are no stranger to cup upsets and may prove to be difficult opposition for The Bloods. Though they beat them 3 – 1 at Croft Park, league based histrionics are out of the question.

East of the M60’s Road to Wembley: Third Qualifying Round Results

Droylsden now the sole Tameside club left in competition as Hyde bow out

So far, this year’s F.A. Cup campaign has been a fruitless one for our sides east of the M60 motorway. This has been punctuated by immediate exits for Glossop North End, Mossley and Stalybridge Celtic. So far, Tameside’s hopes of F.A. Cup success depends on Droylsden. By Monday, we shall find out who Droylsden and Stockport County will be facing in the next round.

East of the M60’s Road to Wembley: Second Qualifying Round Results

Away wins for Hyde and Droylsden but Stalybridge Celtic, Buxton, Altrincham and Ashton United bow out at home

East of the M60 motorway, only one of our teams are in the hat for the Third Qualifying Round draw (with another just inside the M60). Both of which are in the Blue Square Bet North, one of which has enjoyed a good run in the league, with the other one stuttering a little.
