Oldham and Saddleworth Bus Service Changes, 19 April 2020

A look at the more lasting changes that will affect Oldham and Saddleworth bus passengers

Though Oldham and Saddleworth passengers weren’t as badly affected by MCT Travel’s demise as those in Tameside, there are still a few significant changes. At the sharpest end of these changes will be Royton passengers, particularly with the 402 and 412 routes.

It is also worth noting that the following changes will be effective from the 19 April, in spite of lockdown. Therefore temporary timetables will be in operation, even with newly tendered routes.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Measures: Changes to Greater Manchester Bus Services

Important information for bus passengers during the Coronavirus situation

Due to concerns with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, there will be a reduced service on Greater Manchester’s bus routes. Generally, the City Region’s bus operators will either run a Saturday service or an enhanced Sunday service. This is in line with new government advice around social contact and non-essential travel to help combat the Coronavirus.

MCT Travel to Cease Operations in April

Difficult trading conditions leads to Manchester Community Transport’s demise

Less than a year after FirstGroup’s Tamexit in September 2019, the departure of another company will see more upheaval for Tameside’s bus users.

Tameside and Glossop Bus Service Changes, 26 January 2020

Traffic chaos curtails 150 route

  • 150 route curtailed to begin in Gorton;
  • Retiming tweaks for 389 and 350 routes.

As is the norm for the January set of changes, the first set of bus service changes of 2020 is a sedate affair. If you live in Stalybridge or Ashton-under-Lyne, only two routes are subject to minimal service changes. If you live in Hyde and fancy a trip to the intu Trafford Centre – or Chorlton-cum-Hardy, there is one change that doesn’t make for good reading.

Tameside and Glossop Bus Service Changes, 01 September 2019

Spoils of FirstGroup’s Tamexit sees sweeping changes

  • Ashton local services rationalised;
  • No more post-7pm buses from Stalybridge to Hyde;
  • Sunday and Bank Holiday 236s axed.

Most of this September’s changes are affected by FirstGroup’s retreat from the Tameside area. Within the next month, Tameside’s biggest two bus operators will be Stagecoach Manchester and MCT Travel. As for the service changes, not particularly good reading.

Our Network: Tameside’s Future Transport Network in Greater Manchester

Why Andy Burnham has moved one step closer to bus franchising and how this affects Tameside

Greater Manchester is one step closer to seeing off Nicholas Ridley’s free market experiment. A free market experiment that has seen a 45% drop in bus patronage in Greater Manchester. An experiment which has seen swingeing cuts to the city region’s bus routes and the shotgun divorce of GM Buses in 1994.

Oldham and Saddleworth Bus Service Changes, 28 April 2019

First dumps 149 and 415 services whilst Stalybridge lose post-7pm links with Oldham

  • Stagecoach Manchester takes over 149 and 415 services’ daytime journeys;
  • Post 7pm and Sunday 340 journeys withdrawn and replaced by two-hourly Sunday and Bank Holiday journeys of 343 route;
  • Stalybridge loses post-7pm links with Oldham following cuts to 340 and 408 services;
  • Plus the usual slight tweaks and tender changes.

From the 28 April, First Greater Manchester will no longer operate two services on a full time basis. On a further three routes, they have lost tenders to Nexus Move and Stagecoach Manchester.

Whereas our fellows at Wallshaw Street have more or less pulled out of Tameside’s evening services, things have been a little quieter in Oldham and Saddleworth. That is unless you have an auntie in Stalybridge where changes to your 340 or 408 services do not make for good reading.

Tameside and Glossop Bus Service Changes, 28 April 2019

First retreats from evening routes whilst Stalybridge sees post-7pm Oldham links severed

  • Post 7pm and Sunday 340 journeys withdrawn and replaced by two-hourly Sunday and Bank Holiday journeys of 343 route;
  • Stalybridge loses post-7pm links with Oldham following cuts to 340 and 408 services;
  • Manchester Airport link curtailed;
  • Plus the usual slight tweaks and tender changes.

If you thought April 2015’s service changes were brutal, this month’s are a close second. Especially for Stalybridge passengers who are facing a double whammy of bus service cuts.
