Oldham, Tameside and Glossop Bus Service Changes, 25 October 2020

Welcome restoration of Stalybridge to Hyde route

For regular readers used to seeing a separate Oldham and Saddleworth bulletin, this edition covers the Oldham, Tameside and Glossop areas due to the lack of changes in Oldham. Apart from one route that covers the Oldham and Tameside areas.

  • New 387 route bridges Stalyhill gap;
  • Daytime 41As replaced by rerouted 335 route;
  • 389s to serve Tennyson Avenue;
  • 419 withdrawn and replaced by rerouted 396;
  • New Manchester to Sheffield service launched.

Though most of this October’s round of service changes will affect passengers in the Wigan and Bolton area, there are some significant changes for Tameside and Oldham passengers. All of which affect tendered services operated by Stott’s Tours. Those hitherto operated by MCT Travel, prior to HCT Group’s departure from Greater Manchester.

Oldham and Saddleworth Bus Service Changes, 19 April 2020

A look at the more lasting changes that will affect Oldham and Saddleworth bus passengers

Though Oldham and Saddleworth passengers weren’t as badly affected by MCT Travel’s demise as those in Tameside, there are still a few significant changes. At the sharpest end of these changes will be Royton passengers, particularly with the 402 and 412 routes.

It is also worth noting that the following changes will be effective from the 19 April, in spite of lockdown. Therefore temporary timetables will be in operation, even with newly tendered routes.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Measures: Changes to Greater Manchester Bus Services

Important information for bus passengers during the Coronavirus situation

Due to concerns with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, there will be a reduced service on Greater Manchester’s bus routes. Generally, the City Region’s bus operators will either run a Saturday service or an enhanced Sunday service. This is in line with new government advice around social contact and non-essential travel to help combat the Coronavirus.

Tameside and Glossop Bus Service Changes, 26 January 2020

Traffic chaos curtails 150 route

  • 150 route curtailed to begin in Gorton;
  • Retiming tweaks for 389 and 350 routes.

As is the norm for the January set of changes, the first set of bus service changes of 2020 is a sedate affair. If you live in Stalybridge or Ashton-under-Lyne, only two routes are subject to minimal service changes. If you live in Hyde and fancy a trip to the intu Trafford Centre – or Chorlton-cum-Hardy, there is one change that doesn’t make for good reading.

Tameside and Glossop Bus Service Changes, 01 September 2019

Spoils of FirstGroup’s Tamexit sees sweeping changes

  • Ashton local services rationalised;
  • No more post-7pm buses from Stalybridge to Hyde;
  • Sunday and Bank Holiday 236s axed.

Most of this September’s changes are affected by FirstGroup’s retreat from the Tameside area. Within the next month, Tameside’s biggest two bus operators will be Stagecoach Manchester and MCT Travel. As for the service changes, not particularly good reading.

Our Network: Tameside’s Future Transport Network in Greater Manchester

Why Andy Burnham has moved one step closer to bus franchising and how this affects Tameside

Greater Manchester is one step closer to seeing off Nicholas Ridley’s free market experiment. A free market experiment that has seen a 45% drop in bus patronage in Greater Manchester. An experiment which has seen swingeing cuts to the city region’s bus routes and the shotgun divorce of GM Buses in 1994.
