Since the pandemic began last March, any form of normality was put on hold. Pub pints became dependent on the weather (till the 17th May at least). Theatres and cinemas went dark; concert halls, likewise.

Boarshurst Silver Band lead the way among Saddleworth bands in the 2019 North West Regional Brass Band Championships
Blackpool’s Winter Gardens proved to be a happy hunting ground for some of Saddleworth’s brass bands. With thousands of brass band players and spectators descending on the iconic venue, the North West Regionals have a vibrant atmosphere of its own. For three of Saddleworth’s bands, the 2019 contest was one to remember.

Yesterday at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, Boarshurst Silver Band and Oldham (Lees) Band both had a North West Regional Championships date to remember. The Greenfield-based band, conducted by James Garlick, have made waves in their short time as a First Section band. News of the latest Arriva Rail North and Merseyrail Electrics strike dates
Following on from last year’s strikes, the first normal working week of 2018 will see three rail strikes in Northern England. As well as Northern’s dispute, Merseyrail Electrics staff will also be striking on the same days.
Third place spot at Winter Gardens guarantees place in National Finals
Boarshurst Silver Band have booked their place in the National Finals on the 17 – 18 September. Due to take place at The Centaur, Cheltenham, Section 1 to 4 bands alongside Boarshurst will compete for national success within their sections.
X70 relaunched with extra Preston to Manchester journeys
Another chapter in the turbulent history of the X70 Red Rocket Express will be written on the 21 November. Catch22Bus, successors to Classic Bus North West, will relaunch the service with extra journeys from Preston to Manchester.
