One of Peter Graham’s finest works – and the inspiration behind Boarshurst Silver Band’s latest CD
- Piece: Phoenix;
- Composer and Arranger: Peter Graham.
If you reading this entry, it is clear that you have clapped loud enough to justify the means for an encore. We hope you are having a fantastic Christmas Day and hope you got what you wanted this year.
If you got socks or a Mrs Brown’s Boys DVD box set, you might prefer to purchase a great CD. Like Boarshurst Silver Band’s Phoenix album. For the princely sum of £10.00, you wouldn’t regret purchasing their latest CD: so much so, you would want to listen to it again and again.
As for this year’s 25th door (following our blatant plug), we have Peter Graham’s Phoenix. Taken from a wider body of work known as The War of the Worlds, it is the fifth and final movement from the test piece. The suite was commissioned by the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music Saxophone Orchestra. It was premiered at Maeda Hall, Japan on June 29 2012. It is also dedicated to Professor Shin-ichi Iwamoto.
The brass band transcription came a bit later. This time on the 08 September the same year at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, where it was performed by Brighouse and Rastrick Band (conducted by Dr. David King). It is (as you would expect) inspired by the H.G Wells book.
If you clap loud enough (or do the more autie-friendly jazz hands) in full view of your monitor, tablet or smartphone, we might have one more for you.
