Another Brass Band Advent Calendar: 19. I’ll Walk With God

A superb Goff Richards arrangement of a popular hymn

  • Piece: I’ll Walk With God;
  • Composer: Nicholas Brodszky;
  • Arranger: Goff Richards.

This piece can either be chosen as a hymn or a piece of film music in many a concert programme. In The Student Prince, this was sung by Mario Lanza.

The piece in question is I’ll Walk With God. Composed by Nicholas Brodszky, the hymn was used in The Student Prince, where Prince Karl sung the song at the King of Carlsburg’s death bed. Played by Edmund Purdom, his singing was replaced by Mario Lanza’s dubbed voice.

The song has also been performed by Placido Domingo, Russell Watson, Wynne Evans (also know for his role in the Go Compare adverts) and Michael Crawford. Our clip shows The Fairey Band’s rendition at a church in Beaminster, Dorset. This is one of a few clips from The Fairey Band’s 2015 concert.

Following our imaginary raffle break, we have a humdinger of a piece for the 20th December. Stand by for action.
