Another Brass Band Advent Calendar: 8. James Bond Collection

For your ears and eyes only, a fine Goff Richards medley

  • Piece: James Bond Collection;
  • Composer: Various, including John Barry and Carole Bayer-Sager;
  • Arranger: Goff Richards.

As well as thematic concerts for brass band players and musical directors, there is another given about the festive season: a James Bond film of some description. Since the late 1970s at least, you could half expect to see a Jimmy Bond film on Boxing Day or Christmas Day on ITV. Goff Richards’ medley reinforces this inevitability.

One of the best things about the James Bond franchise is the amount of great music it has given us. Such as Nobody Does It Better from The Spy Who Loved Me and Paul McCartney’s Live and Let Die (which is not in this medley). Like anything composed by John Williams, a beautifully transcribed piece works like a dream with brass bands. I shall let Andover Town Band prove this point for you.

Tomorrow’s piece may have a Scandinavian theme. Do not touch this dial!
