Gordon Langford’s arrangement of Richard Rodgers’ iconic song
- Piece: Blue Moon;
- Composer: Richard Rodgers;
- Arranger: Gordon Langford.
For the seventh door, we have chosen a classic song by Richard Rodgers, which has been covered by Elvis Presley, The Platters and The Marcels. It has been adopted by supporters of a certain Manchester club as their song for well over thirty years.
Arranged by Gordon Langford, this is a laid back version of the popular song, which tests the slow melody skills of the chainsaw merchants at Aldbourne Band. If you are of a blue persuasion, feel free to sing along. If not, think of those winsome mice in Babe and their rendition.
As coincidence would have it, our piece for the seventh door coincides with three major events in Greater Manchester. One of which is the Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium today, which has a 5.30pm kick-off. Another one, should you ask, is the Greater Manchester Museum of Transport’s Christmas Cracker event. The third one is a concert featuring two great bands at Uppermill Civic Hall.
The Fairey Band and Dobcross Silver Youth Band’s joint concert at Uppermill Civic Hall. This concert begins at 7.30pm. If you are watching City v. United in The Hare and Hounds, you might have to miss a few minutes of the second half.
S.V., 07 December 2019.
