A friendly message for our readers
If you have travelled by bus, train or tram today, we do not envy you due to today’s delays and cancellations. Especially from Manchester Piccadilly where trains have been diverted to Manchester Victoria station. Not least the overcrowding and stifling conditions.
On public transport during these warm months, a refillable water bottle is a sound investment. Instead of paying next to millions for bottled water, some of Chew Reservoir’s or Thirlmere’s finest is a good substitute. Refill.org has details of local rehydration points across the UK.
With the warm conditions, our fellows at Stagecoach Manchester gave away ice lollies at Ashton-under-Lyne and Stockport bus stations. At Wigan bus station, Stagecoach Wigan dished out free bottles of water.
As you could see from the photograph above, our passenger is enjoying a rocket shaped ice lolly at Ashton bus station. She is sat at G stand, presumably waiting for a 348 or a 350 bus. A good picture apart from one thing: they could have waited to avoid being photobombed by a loading First Greater Manchester single decker bus!
After our photographer’s attempt at paying homage to the cover of Zzap! 64‘s July 1986 edition (find out why via Archive.org), this wouldn’t be the last we’ll hear of Stagecoach this summer. In fact, they will be taking over First’s local routes in Ashton-under-Lyne with major changes. All will be revealed once we see the first timetables in East of the M60 Towers.
