Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum…
Please share our apologies for the infantile choice of sub header, this sort of thing takes me back to when I was six years old. Strictly speaking, this inane excuse of a sub header is the opening line of a well-known song by The Chordettes.
Enter Sandman… erm, Mr Sandman. The song was written in 1954 by Pat Ballard. It was first sung by The Chordettes. Other artistes have included Chet Atkins, Bert Kaemphert, and Emmylou Harris. In the UK, Dickie Valentine had the biggest hit.
Top of our Hit Parade/Advent Calendar is the Cory Band’s rendition. If you need to listen to any brass band performance of Mr Sandman, this is the one to go for. If you liked the sound of their clip, this is only scratching the surface of their abilities. At this time of writing, Philip Harper’s Cory Band are in concert tomorrow night at The Stoller Hall, Manchester (opposite Manchester Victoria railway station).
As for my “back to when I was six years old” reference, I was that age in 1985. The same year when Back To The Future was released. Which also included Mr Sandman.
In a few minutes time we shall be leaving Boarshurst Band Club car park in our Delorean. No prizes for guessing what tomorrow’s piece is going to be then.
