Disney Hit Film Set for Stalybridge Town Cinema’s First Matinee Performance

Junior offshoot of Town Cinema opens with Frozen

The joys of the Saturday matinee is set to reach Stalybridge Town Cinema. At its usual venue (Judge’s Bar), the Walt Disney smash hit Frozen will be shown on the 28 November 2015.

Since its cinematic release broke box office records, it has been a phenomenon. It has broken DVD and Bluray sales records; the amount of spin-off merchandise is nothing short of incredible. You can even get Frozen merchandise in Poundworld these days – testament to the 2013 film’s popularity. Over 1 million people saw the film on one of Sky’s movie channels on Christmas Day. Of late, no Christmas lights switch-on has been complete without an Elsa lookalike standing by the button.

The film is inspired by the fairy tale of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen. It is centred around Elsa, Princess of Arendelle, who possesses cryokinetic powers. This means she could turn Huddersfield Narrow Canal into ice, or turn Wild Bank into a snowy mountain (supposing it was set in Stalybridge of course). There is a coronation, a marriage, and a snowman named Olaf.

The joy – or bane – of anyone who has seen Frozen is its soundtrack. Especially the main song Let It Go, which won an award for Best Song Written for Visual Media in the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.

Tickets for Saturday’s matinee showing will be £4.00 all round. The bar will also be open for the sale of hot and cold soft drinks. Popcorn and ice cream at the usual (lower than the local multiplex) prices.

Stalybridge lights switch-on

Following the matinee presentation of Frozen, this Saturday also sees the switch-on of Stalybridge’s Christmas lights. The film will finish in good enough time to let you find a suitable spot. The switch-on commences at 5pm; guests to be arranged (though don’t be surprised if Elsa or Olaf is present).
