Brighouse and Rastrick and Black Dyke bands top dog in Saddleworth

Whereas Fodens had reinforced their hold on the Tameside contests, both Brighouse and Rastrick and Black Dyke bands led the way in the Oldham and Saddleworth contest.

Brighouse and Rastrick picked up top honours at the Delph contest which attracted a record 84 bands. Black Dyke band settled for third place behind Fairey, who won at Denshaw, and Scouthead and Austerlands contests. After being under threat at the start of 2013, the latter contest had not only prospered but also saw a net gain of six bands on last year’s total.

On a less happier note, last year’s contest at Greenacres was their last, so the closest contest to Oldham town centre, a 180/184/343 ride away, was Lees and Springhead.
