Hills and Mills 2014: The Fourth New Mills Beer Festival

Chalkers’ Snooker Club, Newtown, New Mills, Derbyshire, 04 – 05 April 2014.

It’s that time of the year again. Now in to its fourth year is Hills and Mills, High Peak and North East Cheshire CAMRA’s beer festival. It has started to establish itself as a regular fixture in the real ale fanatic’s calendar.

As with previous events, the venue is Chalkers’ Snooker Club, Newtown, the festival begins at 1200 on Friday 04 April, running till 2300 hours with a similar time the following Saturday.

This year’s event will be supporting the Blythe House Hospice. Again, our fellows from Buxton Brewery will be sponsoring Hills and Mills, albeit as one of four sponsors. The other three sponsors are the Green Mill Brewery (who have moved from Rochdale to Broadbottom), and two Glossop breweries: Howard Town Brewery and the Derbyshire town’s most recent addition, Mouselow Farm Brewery.

Unlike last year’s event, it is also clashing with The 26th Oldham Beer Festival at The Queen Elizabeth Hall. Even so, there’s nothing to stop you doing New Mills on the Friday then Oldham on Saturday, or vice versa.

As usual, there will be a wide range of locally brewed cask conditioned ales mostly from the North West of England, Derbyshire and Yorkshire, plus a selection of real ciders and perries. Admission is free with the venue being easy to find on public transport. High Peak’s 199 service stops near the door with New Mills Newtown being the nearest railway station. Feel free to download the latest version of the Hills and Mills Poster for 2014, another one of my creations.

S.V., 03 April 2014.
