All Change at Stagecoach Wigan

New Operations Manager moves to Wigan from Preston via Aberdeen

If you’ve travelled from Preston to Wigan via Aberdeen, you could be forgiven for boarding the wrong train (and the fare wouldn’t leave you change from a £10 note). It is between the said Lancashire city and town via the Granite City which formed the career path of Stagecoach in Wigan’s new Operations Manager, Alex Crane.

Alex joined Stagecoach as a trainee at 20 years old, worked in a number of positions across the Group, including bus driver, controller and driving instructor, before he was recruited to company’s staff development programme. On completion of the programme, he was appointed assistant operations manager at the company’s Preston depot, before taking up the post as operations manager at Stagecoach Aberdeen, giving him more than 15 years’ experience in the industry.

Based at the company’s Wigan depot, acquired from First Greater Manchester in December 2012, Alex is now charged with fully implementing Stagecoach systems and procedures at the site. He will also be responsible for improving the quality of service deliveries for Stagecoach Wigan’s 8.4 million new customers, focusing on reliability, frequency of services and punctuality.

Alex commented: “I joined Stagecoach 15 years ago and since then I’ve never looked back. I have worked at many levels in the company, gaining an in-depth understanding of the business and experiencing many diverse situations. I am now relishing the challenge of introducing Stagecoach’s robust systems and procedures to the new Wigan depot.

“In my new role I will be focusing on the reliability and punctuality of our services, ensuring operations are run efficiently and to the highest standards possible for our new customers.”

Christopher Bowles, managing director of Stagecoach Manchester and Stagecoach Wigan, commented: “Alex’s experience in a number of roles across the company will be key benefits to Stagecoach Wigan.

“We are certain that his wide skill set, intricate understanding of Stagecoach and the wider industry, combined with his passion for people will be invaluable in his new position.”
