Yes, it is that time of the year again on East of the M60 where another set of schedules is of equal importance to that of BBC’s, Sky’s and ITVs. I am referring to public transport operations in Greater Manchester. As per usual, some trunk routes will be operating a special service on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

So far, there is little reference as to which routes will be operated by First Greater Manchester on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Stagecoach Manchester has already stated which services shall be running. For the first time in 25 years, Dukinfield gets a Boxing Day bus service, with the 330 running every half hour from 0910 from Ashton and 0925 from Stockport. Last buses will depart at 1710 and 1725 respectively.

  1. Wow, that’s fantastic news! I’ve never been on a bus on Boxing Day, but I may give it a go if I’ve nowt else to do. For the novelty factor, and maybe to grab a few boxing day bargains in town. I doubt First will match up to Stagecoach with regards Boxing Day/New Year’s day services.

    1. Hi Mark,

I doubt as if FGM would equal Stagecoach’s approach to Boxing Day service provision. As for my last Boxing Day bus journey, it was in 1986 on the 343 to my late Nana’s house in Top Mossley. I used to love getting the bus on Boxing Day; Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ always reminds of a 1985 journey on the 343 to my auntie’s house, who was living on Waterton Lane at the time.

And my last Boxing Day bus journey was aboard a double decker too. Happy days!

      Bye for now,

      Stuart.
