10. A dual door ex-Oldham Corporation Roe bodied Leyland Atlantean
Here’s the sister to our previous bus. Though ordered by Oldham Corporation, this example entered service in 1971 with SELNEC and never wore the predecessor’s pommard and cream livery. 192 (or 5192 in its post-SELNEC guise). This one is seen on a part route working of the 409 service, photographed around 1982 – 83.
Bus Route of Christmas Past: our retrospective 10 is the Ashton-under-Lyne to Dukinfield [Yew Tree] local services operated by SHMD. The 10 continued to Yew Tree Lane via Dewsnap Lane, with its sister route, the 10A taking in Boyd’s Walk. In 1973, the 10 was renumbered 340, with 10A being renumbered 339. They both became circular routes serving Dewsnap Lane and Boyd’s Walk, and extended to serve Tennyson Avenue. In 2006, they were replaced by the 41 with the evening and Sunday 339 and 340 services falling in line with the daytime service of the 41 (launched in 2002).
Bus Route of Christmas Present: We go to York for First York’s Claret Line service from Roman Avenue to Nether Poppleton. The service operates every half hour in the daytime (or hourly on Sundays and Bank Holidays). York Pullman operate some evening services on a hourly basis.
