64 jobs created for new Wilkinson store in Wythenshawe
In an age where shops are closing instead of opening, it is always welcome to see someone buck the trend. Set to open on Thursday 15 September, 9.00am, is Wilkinson’s new store, their 360th branch.
Wilkinson (or Wilko as it is affectionately known by its 178 million+ customers and staff alike) is a family company which has been trading for over 80 years. Its first store opened in 1930 on Charnwood Street, Leicester. Since its humble beginnings, it has become a national chain with over 25,000 product lines from gardening equipment to dog toys. It first made inroads into Greater Manchester opening its first stores in Bury and Ashton-under-Lyne in the last two decades.
The new store will occupy a 15,000 square feet unit in Etrop Court. A total of 64 new jobs will be created for local people, ranging from sales assistants and security officers, to stock supervisors and warehouse staff.
Wythenshavians will no longer need to travel to Hyde or Sale for their nearest store with unbeatable value on a huge selection of everyday items available on their doorstep. Items range from cosmetic products to gardening equipment, cleaning products and housewares. There will also be seasonal products, including back to school essentials, such as lunchboxes, pens and notepads.
Store manager, Debi Eastham, commented: “Opening a new store in Wythenshawe is an exciting prospect for Wilkinsons. We are pleased to be bringing our great value, high quality product ranges to the area and we are certain that local residents will appreciate our focus on providing excellent customer service.
“We are also proud to be creating 64 new jobs for local people and building a skilled team, who will make shopping at the store a unique, enjoyable experience for customers.
“Plans for the launch are shaping up well and we’re pleased to be joining this close knit community in Wythenshawe.”
Wilkinson is also committed to Britain’s high streets and prides itself on being a community focused retailer, actively supporting of local charities, community groups and care organisations, as well as its national charity of the year, Age UK.
It has recently added catalogue based shopping and online services to its forte with the introduction of WilkinsonPlus. 80 years on, it is dedicated to providing its customers with high quality products, choice and first class, friendly service. Online and in person.
