System One celebrates launch of junior day rover ticket with a Big Day Out

A postcard of Manchester attraction and buses

Most regular readers of East of the M60 and similar transport blogs would have noticed the furore over TfGM’s concessionary fares system. Not least the change to half fare from flat fares and the new IGo pass (which is basically an Under 16 Card on steroids). On a happier note, System One Travelcards have launched a new bus only day rover for passengers under 16 years of age. The Junior Bus DaySaver ticket costs £2.70 and allows travel on all buses within the Greater Manchester boundary, from Arriva Manchester to Trent Barton.

To celebrate this, System One is appealing to local residents, to highlight individual local community groups, organisations and charities that deserve a Big Day Out. Courtesy of System One Travelcards, there will be ten lucky groups (from each of Greater Manchester’s boroughs) sharing £3,500. Each winning group will be given £250 with a further £100 to spend on System One DaySaver tickets for use within Greater Manchester. This will go towards travel to the venue of their choice, be it Old Trafford, the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry or a picnic in the region’s many parks.

Gradyn Thompson from System One Travelcards commented: “There are so many community and charity organisations in Greater Manchester that offer vital services and social activities to local residents all year round.

“Many of these fantastic organisations have been hit by funding cuts, or struggled to cover costs in the tough economic climate.

“System One’s ‘Big Day Out’ is a great opportunity to reward projects that may need a little extra support to enjoy a fun day out in the region this summer.”

To be in for a chance to win, contact System One and explain (in no more than 150 words):

  • The name of the organisation and what it does;
  • The Greater Manchester borough in which it is based;
  • Why the group deserves a ‘Big Day Out’;
  • What the group would do on its ‘Big Day Out’.

All you have to do is apply through System One’s Facebook page ‘OneManchester‘, by emailing, or by post to Nikki Girvan, Tangerine PR, Giant’s Basin, Potato Wharf, Castlefield, Manchester, M3 4NB. Organisations are also able to nominate themselves, and all applications must be received by midnight on Sunday 3rd July 2011.

A panel of judges will shortlist three organisations from each borough, which will then be put to a public vote. The shortlisted nominations will be announced on Monday 11th July, when voting will go live on the OneManchester Facebook page.
