Hi Jimmy,

The first time I knew of the Stalybridge - Macclesfield route was in the first of Transport Publishing Company's two books on the North Western Road Car Company. It is also stated within GMT's 1984 leaflet on Hospital Bus Services, and in a 1985 GMT timetable for Glossop area local routes.

There are some pretty obscure routes in there - I especially like the Macclesfield - Stalybridge one! Just a quick note about the Stockport - Macclesfield service (an old commute of mine): the direct service by BakerBus is still numbered 393, with an alternating 392 service that diverts via Pott Shrigley away from the main A523.

The compilation lives! Well, as much of it as is on Spotify anyway. You'll need Spotify to listen. Let me know if you need an invite.

Hi Gavin,

It is nice to find somebody else who has heard of 'Panic' by The Scoop - and that you didn't imagine it! Like yourself I have been trying to find MP3 files - or even 7" singles of that killer track. Rocking horse poo springs to mind as I have tried and failed to find any information on the band themselves!

If anybody else remembers 'The Scoop' (or better still, if any members of The Scoop are reading this), please come forward!

The song appeared on cassette/LP 2 of 'Chart Hits '81' released by K-Tel (UK #1 album, early December of that year). The song didn't even chart. According to the inlay notes they were on the Towerbell record label.

I'm glad the track wasn't a figment of our imaginations!

Hi M. Branson,

I agree with you on the 184, having boarded this route several times since 2002 (when it was the 365) - and in recent times on a Volvo B9TL. The route didn't have the same scenic impact aboard the Dennis Lances. You'll also like Martin Bryant's article on the 184:

http://manchesterbus.typepad.com/manchester_buses/2008/12/the-3-minute-journey---manchester-to-huddersfield-on-the-184.html

The 180 extension to Huddersfield via Holmfirth used to be a great route, passing the remote Isle of Skye road near Dovestones and Yeoman Hey reservoirs.

Hi, another one I feel I should recommend is the Oldham-Huddersfield section of the Manchester-Huddersfield 184 route, which with the recent influx of new Volvo B9TL/Wright Eclipse Gemini buses, has pleasingly been converted to double-deck operation. Stunning views across Saddleworth Moor await.....

Hi M. Swales,

I've yet to try the S50 myself, as I am never in Mossley during Monday - Saturday. It does in some part replace the [Dennis'] 341 withdrawn in 1987, but has no link to Smallshaw. More than anything it competes with First's 350 - and has healthy loadings due to the lower fares which benefits casual users.

I've also done the other 341 service myself. I've used it in its previous guises as Glossopdale and Stagecoach Manchester routes.

I would assume the 1 hour journey time on the S50 is to Manchester (Shudehill). The section west of Ashton is facing temporary curtailment till the Metrolink works have finished.

Try speedwellbus new s50 service i believe it replaces the old 341 you speak of
the 341 is now speedwell service from hyde to glossop taking in backbower/hattersley/broadbottom/charlesworth/gamesley/simmondley and finally into glossop.
trip takes approx 1hr and some good drivers
