Stalybridge to Stockport link restored

29 08 2007

Service changes, September 2007

One happy accident of Stagecoach in Manchester’s September service revisions has been the restoration of a link between Stalybridge and Stockport.

Before you run too fast, this has nothing to do with the fabled Stalybridge – Stockport line. In fact, it is a revision of Stagecoach in Manchester’s daytime 389 service.

From Sunday 2nd September, the 389 will now run Ashton to Stockport, via Stalybridge, Gee Cross, Greave and Romiley, and will no longer serve Compstall and Marple. Connections to these two places can be made by changing at Romiley for the 383 and 384 Stockport circular services – which will run every 15 minutes instead of every 30 minutes on Monday – Saturday daytimes. This revision will continue the pre September 389 route up to Gee Cross, then approach Greave via Pennine Road, replacing the daytime 386 service. Passenger for Woodley from Stalybridge will have to change at Hyde for the 330 route.

Evening and Sunday services replacing the 386 will be the 380 and 381 services.  From Ashton to Hawk Green, Sunday and Bank Holiday daytime services will continue to run to Woodley and Marple though will be renumbered 388. First Pioneer will remain the operators of this route. Short 389 journeys from Ashton to Hyde, also by First Pioneer are unaffected.

Other changes include the 397 (Hyde – Glossop, Shirebrook Park).  This will no longer run via Sheffield Road, Godley and Hattersley Road West and East.  Instead, this service will follow the 201 from Hyde bus station up to Underwood Road, Hattersley.  Speedwellbus will take over this route from Stagecoach in Manchester.  Also, the 216 and 219 Ashton t0 Manchester buses will benefit from extra daytime services.
