Sandwich Shops: Your favourites

21 08 2006

Party People! Your favourite sandwich shops or other purveyors of that high margin fast turnover food stuff invented for eating and playing cards to, please. On Oxford Street, near St. Peter’s Square in Manchester is a good value butty shop, ‘Café Roma’. Their Tuna salads sell for half the price of a well known franchise’s equivalent, with fresher salad at that. I’ve been the proud customer of this sandwich shop for over two years. The staff are friendly and the service is speedy.

I would love to hear your comments your comments on your favourite sandwich shops.  They can be anywhere within or outside the Greater Manchester area.  You could also state your favourite sandwich.  If you are in central Manchester, I recommend the tuna salad from Café Roma, which is best enjoyed on a 12″ baguette.

Stuart Vallantine.

Now forgive me if this opinion is out of date. It’s been awhile and standards may not have been maintained or wares may not still be so cheap or value for money rather. (Whenever something is described as cheap we also assume that it’s going to be cheap and therefore immediately apply negative connotations). The establishment thrust in to spot light is the Manchester Met Student Union sandwich shop (Oxford Road). The list of ingredients is or perhaps was endless. From pesto, olives and dried chillies to pastrami, chorizo, bangers and beyond it truly catered for many and most palates with the now obligatory ciabatta panini offerings that included a personal favourite of mine hot chicken and pesto. It has been several years since my last visit but I do hope not everything changes.

If I’m in Subway, their Meatball Marinara with cheese is usually the sole reason for my visit. A foot long version is enough to keep me going till teatime. I love the sauce and the meatballs myself.
